2017 Diversity & Inclusion Status Report Highlights
At the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, we are focused on fostering diversity and inclusion across our business. This starts with our culture, where we value inclusion and collaboration – working together to drive our cooperative forward. Through hiring, developing, advancing and retaining our employees, we are focused on promoting diversity at every level of the Bank, from our Board of Directors to management team to our newest colleagues. Our inclusive environment also extends to those we interact with on a daily basis, creating an inclusive experience for our members, business partners and suppliers.
The importance of diversity and inclusion is built right into our structure. As a cooperative, our membership spans institutions with different footprints, different asset sizes, different business models and different areas of focus, all bound by a shared commitment to the communities they serve. A more diversified membership gives us a stronger base, and allows for our funding to be put to even greater use across our District. Our District – which includes New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands – is one of the most diverse in the country with regards to ethnicity, race and economic status, and with that diversity comes a diverse set of needs. By championing diversity and inclusion at every level of our organization, we are well-positioned to meet these needs each and every day.
In 2017, the Bank made significant achievements in diversity and inclusion, especially with regards to four key areas: our employment practices; our procurement activities; our capital markets relationships; and our Affordable Housing and Community Lending Programs. These achievements are captured in our 2017 Diversity & Inclusion Status Report. By focusing on diversity and inclusion not only in these key areas but at every level of our organization, we create a stronger cooperative for our members and the communities we serve.
